When I came back after my solo show in Pakistan last year, I had huge plans to work on my upcoming exhibition. During the whole flight, I was picturing images of flowers with bright colours, elegant ballerinas and scenes expressed on the canvas.
But I have to say this year and the last have changed the world dramatically. My plans to go outside and paint flowers, gain inspiration from nature had all vanished. I was particularly regretful that I couldn’t go on all of the wonderful trips to my local ballet school that I planned since I really wanted to make a series of ballet works. But nonetheless, we all have to learn to stay strong and learn to adapt to our situations and circumstances. I am really glad that despite of lockdowns and restrictions, I could still paint a range of ballerina paintings, thanks to my friends who helped by posing in the public parks and on Zoom meetings.
My special thanks to Isabella Rae who is a professional Ballerina and a very nice person because of her help I am able to present few of my paintings from ballerina series. Second important source was my sketch books, the studies of different models in drawing sessions that made it possible.
Every time I went shopping, I managed to buy flowers and picking branches of Magnolias, although this was a different way of painting nature, it did help me a lot to still be able to paint this series at home during lockdowns.
As most of you may now know, I am having a solo show in Lahore, Pakistan in March this year. I invite all of you to come and see my work if you are able to. But this exhibition will be a little different; of course, back home in England, there is still a lockdown and travel restrictions in place so I sadly won’t be able to come to this exhibition. I know that this is a bit different and I’m sorry that I can’t be there, but even so, I’ll stay in touch and will be welcoming you through video calls remotely.
Hopefully later in the year, things will get better and I will be able to travel once again!
Stay safe,
Faiqa
I am thankful to my loving family, friends and my social media community for all the support they have shown throughout this challenging period.
